The future of agriculture as seen by 300 digital personas
Introduction
This experiment is based upon a forecasting project on the future of journalism from the Tinius Trust. Prompts and methodology are adapted from this project, and applied to the context of agriculture in an age of AI.
The experiment looks to explore some of the plausible future scenarios for agriculture, and also to examine the capabilities and opportunities that new tools present.
The report has been generated through a combination of Google Gemini and NotebookLM. Sections in black are notes, written by a human (with the assistance of speech-to-text transcription).
An experiment in synthetic foresight
This foresight project focuses on analyzing the transformative implications of AI for global agriculture over a horizon of 5 to 15 years. The project’s central objective is to explore scenarios that assume a fundamental restructuring of the system due to the influence of new AI capabilities, specifically avoiding merely incremental extensions of the status quo.
The scope of the 'system' to which this analysis applies is comprehensive, encompassing all forms of agriculture as well as natural capital markets, such as carbon credits.
Scenarios in this project describe a specific and explicit ‘end state,’ detail the underlying AI ‘driving forces’ that lead to that state, and provide a logical explanation of the causal pathway.
